\\I would assume that the Logic of an algorithm is pure reason, but I suppose there could be practical aspects, as well, like choosing the language to program in.
Interesting idea.
Can I hope that you'll elaborate it further?
Limits to capability? Imaginary numbers?
Yeah... that is old and very interesting question -- about relation of Math and Phys... mean, Reality.
ReplyDeleteBut sinse then Programming was devised.
So, now that question pransformed into -- can our Universe be described as Turing's machine? ;-)
You tell me. :P
ReplyDeleteComment missing.
ReplyDeleteWell.
Go ask Wolfram. ;-)
Not in Spam. ???
ReplyDeleteStephan Wolfram
ReplyDeleteNew Kind of Science.
Not 'Pataphysics? ;P
ReplyDeletePhysics of Star Trek? ;-P
ReplyDeleteThe "tech" is the "magic" in Science Fiction.
ReplyDeleteOh... that is pet peeve of mine.
ReplyDeleteThat verse "technologies... it's magic"
The very first question -- which exactly?
Wizardry? Witchcraft? Alchemy? :-)))
All of the above. When the Enterprise does time travel, perhaps you can explain the physics?
ReplyDelete\\All of the above.
ReplyDeleteBut... magic don't work like that.
Wizard do not use witchcraft.
Alchemists do not chant spells.
Each type of "magic" have own mechanics. And do not cross-work.
\\When the Enterprise does time travel, perhaps you can explain the physics?
In our Universe? Or their? ;-)
In our Universe physics of Star Treks can be explained with currents inside brain of that script writer. ;-P
We've run out of witches to burn, so we've decided to start burning SciFi writers and future technologists. :P
ReplyDeleteWanna know some real witches? The people who convinced Americans that homosexuals could get married. Just say the spell, "marriage"... and *poof*, it's true.
ReplyDeleteExactly! MAGIC!!!
ReplyDeleteOnly try to do that with electrons... ;-P
and you will know -- that tech != magic, but sweat and blood and brain-crunching. ;-P
Yap.
ReplyDeleteDoing science and tech is hard. No like that brandishing magic wand at all. ;-P
Another word -- Experiment(s) need to be performed.
ReplyDeleteAnd new tech needed for that experiments. ;-)
Experiments = failures. Can you afford to learn from failure? Or will failures get you cancelled?
ReplyDeleteThat's the problem with NASA. It can't afford failures.
Yap. :-)))
ReplyDelete\\\\I would assume that the Logic of an algorithm is pure reason, but I suppose there could be practical aspects, as well, like choosing the language to program in.
ReplyDeleteSo?
What difference differ representation aka another PL could introduce? ;-)
Back in my day, COBOL was for business, FORTRAN was for math, and BASIC was for learning.
ReplyDeleteToday it even more diversifed and specialized.
ReplyDeleteLike JavaScript for web-pages.
Or Haskel... for eggheads... wannabees. :-)))
But well. Logic itself is the same.
Different languages have slightly differ logics.
And even if you'd reduce it to notation. Or even "logic" of computer microchips...
There still discrepancies exist.
