So I'd say that I'm interested in finding/discovering means for reducing IC mission creep, and bureaucratic mission creep in general. Socialism is great for war fighting, but it sucks for domestic governance and peacetime life.

But absent the Cold war, I have a hard time sympathizing any longer. War and IC Powers are for war times, but instead, they're trampling all over the peace that the world deserves. ps - The US mission to Venezuela of which my family played a part was ultimately proved an immense failure. Cuba thoroughly infiltrated the Venezuelan government and led to the rise of Hugo Chavez. No, it's entirely pertinent. I believe in "negative liberty" (Isaiah Berlin, "Two Concepts of Liberty"). During war times, the negative liberties get disappeared (Abraham Lincoln suspends habeas corpus and the State of Maryland is prevented from succeeding by the arrest of State Legislators). Their "negative liberties (rights of habeas corpus suspended). The "draft" (forced conscription) is another such case (war power).
Think of it this way... if "life" sufficient for living, or must it be a "good" life? Negative liberty ensures the possibility of a "good" life... for Don Quixote to pursue his quests all over la Mancha. I am Don Quixote. I simply know that one of the issues in Donbas was a banning of the Russian language. Yes, I'm sure it was the lingua franca since USSR days, but we have many non-English speakers in the USA that refuse to learn English and who demand to have English translated into their native languages. There have been attempts to deem English the "official language"... and have failed.

I've lost most of the things I had once hoped to conserve. A "way of life" has become a "lifestyle". Nuclear families have become a quaint minority. Pride of nation and race has become "shameful". People no longer own property. I inherited 20 acres of farmland and sold it for a down payment on 1/4 lot with a house. The rural life has become an urban one... and the politics have moved to represent urban values with it. I have rural values, not urban ones. And the possibility of restoring those values has almost entirely disappeared. We've ceased being "landowners/ holders" and become gypsies. We've gone from being "owners" to being "renters".
Our family's farm was a "century farm". Now, we no longer own/farm it. WWII was the beginning of the end, as my mother's/father's generation all went off to war and national service, and America's national industries "globalized".
...and yes, tech made it possible for my great-grandfather's 400 acre farm to eventually be farmed by 1 man (my uncle Don). After my uncle Don passed, there were no kids left to take over. They had all gone to college and moved off the farm. So it's gone, along with all my fond memories of summers spent there. My kids only saw it once... they never lived the rural life, of the "primal" American experience.
My California relatives were just as nostalgic. This is my uncle Louie describing some of the items he sold to the city museum.

The closer you get to the city, the more developed the farm, as the "wages earned" and "rents charged for real estate" depend upon and increase the closer to urban trading center you go. Ranches with cattle and grasslands, will be farthest away, as cattle sheep can be driven long distances. Heavier and more perishable products will be produced closer to markets. It's all "Adam Smith"
The most valuable products will be traded in the city center. That's where you'll also find all the banks/ financial institutions needed to conduct or guarantee the financial transactions conducted in any one particular region.
The trade of "lighter" but "expensive/ more valuable" products will be through the air... with high end electronics transferring through places like Anchorage Alaska. Heavier/less costly materials will generally go by sea. Mid-range/ Mid-cost materials overland by train/truck.

My Systems Analysis simulations were always crude, and usually involved at least 3 options evaluated under 3 "scenarios", recommending the option that survived all three the "best" based upon the liklihood of each scenario materializing. If I had to define scenarios today I'd say:
1) Russia attacks Ukraine from all sides with 1 million troops. I put this probability at about 10%
2) Russia attacks Ukrain in East only w/300k fresh troops and bombs the rest of Ukraine. I'd put this probability at about 80%
3) Russia consolidates defensive positions and settles for "bleeding" Ukraine in accordance with NATO wishes. I put this probability at about 10%
Or... maybe if you have yours.
