“They saw their injured country's woe;
The flaming town, the wasted field;
Then rushed to meet the insulting foe;
They took the spear, - but left the shield.”
But isn't that what one might call the central message of Christianty: by his stripes we are healed.
If the sacrifice of one man [be He the Son of God] is enough to absolve the entire humanity, for all time, of their sins, don't you think the "sacrifice" of an entire race is enough to absolve it for at least some time to come? :)
How we like to preach others their truth? It is their truth you preach, my friend, and if they do not see it so much the worse for them. But it is not yours. Yours is that of the wandering Jew, whose was the hand that struck Jesus, and was for that to wander the earth FOR ALL ETERNITY. Take your curse, my friend, man that you are! :)
What makes you think you can be a light to others? Please don't get me wrong. I don't mean that nobody can. But, to be a basanos, a touchstone, for others, you must first give proof of it yourself. Remember Nicias speech from Laches:
As to Socrates, i have no knowledge of his words, but of old, as would seem, i have had experience of his deeds; and his deeds show that free and noble sentiments are natural to him. And if his words accord, then i am of one mind with him, and shall be delighted to be interrogated by a man such as he is, and shall not be annoyed at having to learn from him. :)
Have you yet proclaimed your own truth? Where are the "consequences" for you in all this? If not, it can only mean that it is not your truth. Proclaim that first! and then the world will heed you when you proclaim theirs.
But "proclaiming" is a two way street, don't you think? What you say and what they hear are two diferent things. What they hear is simply, but for a chance of birth he would have been singing a very different tune and why? because they don't see any consequences in it for yourself.
But what do i know of you "personally"? or, of others? The picture i get is from these blogs, most of which are political in nature. So perhaps i have been presuming, the discourse may be very different on the personal level. Sorry about that. :(
Thanks. I think i've got it. The context here is more the liberal politics than the race-relations; and the former, by having in a way forced your hand, may have made the divide to grow even more. Am i correct?
Oh no, I was speaking frankly. I have known you long and enough now not to have any "reservations" on that point. I "frankly" thought that i had got the context wrong. For, if the context is liberal politics, then i can see why this truth must need be spoken. Even "personally", perhaps. [I was wrong there.] But as one race to another, that is when the context is only race ad nothing else, then perhaps it would behoove you if you first spoke your truth.
To me, American black families are the "canaries in the coalmine" of progressive liberalism. A vast majority bought the product, lock, stock and barrel.
As for MY truth, I am a product of Charles Murray's Fishtown, yet I retain Belmont values. I live next to some of the most exclusive Superzips in the country, but commute to them. I move in and out of "the bubble". I doubt many who live within it have ever slaughtered their own dinner. I have.
...and I've been prepared for this... so no worries!
I am glad to hear that.
On a final note ... i do believe they [the liberals] have stacked the deck for "you". There is nothing "you" can say or do that will win you a "hand". And yet, i sometimes feel that we are too blinded by politics. There must be someone among the conservatives who would give the entire message: "This is your truth, and this is ours. And the liberals are nobody's friends." :)
The question is not whether you expect to win or not, but rather that a hand is being forced on you. You could still refuse to play it, but you don't; and that is because you are blinded by politics [and let's call a spade a spade - in some cases by prejudices as well.] And in doing so you merely play right into their hands.
Even so i would like to retract my last comment, even though i do think that truth is getting distorted here at least in the delivery: truth must be told, just as it must introduce hierarchies in the soul. But you know all about that. :)
Nil nisi bonum. It used to be a sound precept for conduct. What happened to it? :)
ReplyDeleteIt has been reserved for the living. Since 1964' it's been the law of our land.
ReplyDelete1964?
ReplyDeleteThe Civil Rights Act. inter-racial critism is strictly VERBOTEN. If you criticize the president, you are a racist!
ReplyDeleteI see. Now i don't. Lol! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your job loss. Don't i remember hearing you say you are a private contractor?
One must only speak"affirmatively" of all previously oppressed races... for they are "defect free".
ReplyDeleteBut isn't that what one might call the central message of Christianty: by his stripes we are healed.
ReplyDeleteIf the sacrifice of one man [be He the Son of God] is enough to absolve the entire humanity, for all time, of their sins, don't you think the "sacrifice" of an entire race is enough to absolve it for at least some time to come? :)
Note: I am being rhetorical, i know, but i would like to think to good purpose. Please bear with me. :)
ReplyDeleteHow many generations? The Civil War ended almost 150 years ago. Jim Crow ended 50 years ago.
ReplyDeleteAllowing people to wallow in their own crapulence for multiple generations, like the palestinians, has done them no favors.
ReplyDeleteits time to "man up" and ACT like equals.
ReplyDelete...to take a little criticism... not just dish it out.
ReplyDeletei'm with Zizek here, too

ReplyDeleteAbove, correction: ...[cursed] to wander...
ReplyDeletebrb.
ReplyDeleteI'm not preaching their truth, just shining a light on it. :)
ReplyDeleteThey've been wearing the Ring of Gyges, cloaked in invisibility for 50 years. enough.
ReplyDeleteThe "legend of Trayvon", like that of Mathew Shepard, is the result.
ReplyDeleteno more "mythical" innocents.

ReplyDeleteI don't proclaim myself to be a light to others. I simply proclaim that we must ALL stand in the light.
ReplyDelete...and when the light goes on, may the slow cockroach be the first one squished.
ReplyDeleteBut "proclaiming" is a two way street, don't you think? What you say and what they hear are two diferent things. What they hear is simply, but for a chance of birth he would have been singing a very different tune and why? because they don't see any consequences in it for yourself.
ReplyDeletelol,
ReplyDeleteno consequences?
saying that which is politically incorrect has no consequences?
I see it more like daniel in the Lion's den...
מנא, מנא, תקל, ופרסין
Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin
...reading the handwriting on the wall.
ReplyDelete...pointing out the "excesses" of liberalism, and voicing the "classical" position.
ReplyDeletePolitically, yes. Personally, no.
ReplyDeleteBut what do i know of you "personally"? or, of others? The picture i get is from these blogs, most of which are political in nature. So perhaps i have been presuming, the discourse may be very different on the personal level. Sorry about that. :(

ReplyDeleteI was referring to no onsequences?saying that which is politically incorrect has no consequences?, above.
Thanks. I think i've got it. The context here is more the liberal politics than the race-relations; and the former, by having in a way forced your hand, may have made the divide to grow even more. Am i correct?
ReplyDeleteAnd it is race relations. i seek solidarity with black Americans, NOt segregation.
ReplyDeletei just don't think that you can achieve solidarity unless you can speak "frankly".
ReplyDelete...perhaps not all the time. But at least when you have to.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I was speaking frankly. I have known you long and enough now not to have any "reservations" on that point. I "frankly" thought that i had got the context wrong. ReplyDeleteI must call it a day here, as i have still some things left i need to take care of before i hit the bed.
ReplyDeleteNight, fj. And sorry about the job thing. I hope it doesn't last long. :(
As for MY truth, I am a product of Charles Murray's Fishtown, yet I retain Belmont values. I live next to some of the most exclusive Superzips in the country, but commute to them. I move in and out of "the bubble". I doubt many who live within it have ever slaughtered their own dinner. I have.
ReplyDeleteAnd have a good evenning! Catch ya on the flip side!
ReplyDelete...and I've been prepared for this... so no worries!

ReplyDeleteNyt.
I don't expect to win hands. All I hope to achieve is an occassional stalemate. Those are reward enough.
ReplyDeletenyt,
ReplyDeleteThe question is not whether you expect to win or not, but rather that a hand is being forced on you. You could still refuse to play it, but you don't; and that is because you are blinded by politics [and let's call a spade a spade - in some cases by prejudices as well.] And in doing so you merely play right into their hands.
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm blinded by my own far too lazy comfort and unwillingness to risk it for something better.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, on the "desire" side of "drive".
ReplyDeleteOf course i didn't mean "you" personally. :)
ReplyDeleteEven so i would like to retract my last comment, even though i do think that truth is getting distorted here at least in the delivery: truth must be told, just as it must introduce hierarchies in the soul. But you know all about that. :)
But what does apply to me, also applies to others. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd truth is always distorted in the delivery, and then, misunderstood. And you know all that. :)
heh. :)
