“They saw their injured country's woe;
The flaming town, the wasted field;
Then rushed to meet the insulting foe;
They took the spear, - but left the shield.”
Isn't this tangentially related to how some military rifle rounds will tumble through a target (i.e. cause massive trauma) because a new axis is introduced when the smaller end hits and the greater mass of the bigger end spins (deflects its inertia) around it?
