The Ancient Greek Answer to Buddhism...
The Conservative Answer to Community (Tragic Need v. Progressive Desire):
Buddhist's seek to minimize suffering, the Greeks pursue it as their expected/ desired meaningful end. They don't chase an historical eschaton. They make themselves the shapers and world historical individuals remembered for the destruction (negation) they caused along the way. The Napoleon's, Hitler's, Stalin's, and Churchills that shaped the course of history... who responded to its' call of necessity and duty when "the best" were required... who suffered and died for their fellow men.
The "goal" was not to die in their beds as old men, but like Achilles, to die gloriously in pursuit of virtuous Hellenic goals, and immortalized be their countrymen for it. Because only "the good" die young.
When you understand Buddhist philosophy and psychology give me a jingle. Right now you're merely expressing your beliefs in historical romanticism. Of no interest to me in the present.
Those who believe they've learned enough are either fearful of learning anything that challenges their reified beliefs or their attachments to their belief are so strong its creates an environment of ignorance and or delusions or both.
Despite the Buddha's teachings, variations of the caste system have persisted in some Buddhist cultures, although they are often less rigid than the Hindu system.
He must not have been "anti-racist/ anti-caste-ist" enough, huh? Good thing you are, huh?
