“They saw their injured country's woe;
The flaming town, the wasted field;
Then rushed to meet the insulting foe;
They took the spear, - but left the shield.”
Both could drive you mad
all art is political.The statement is gratuitous, FJ... having no "real" value for life. It's also incomplete ... for, not just art, but everything - be it a gesture, a word, an action - is political. So, if one still wants to use your expression, then everything is art. Again true but gratuitous. Actually, the problem is inherent in modernity, where everything has become a sign for something larger, paralyzing thought and action. Given time I would like to get back to it in more detail. Thanks!
It is a bit of an "enigma". ;)
Why does the dog chase his tail?
everything has become a sign for something larger, paralyzing thought and actionImmobilized by....???Manque, where are you now?
Shall we follow your gaze, or mine?
My memory is now officially shot. I looked all over for where I might have poosted this video... instead of the two above... c'est la vie.
btw - I wasn't trying to make any philosophical or psychological point with this post. I was merely trying to convey the message that I saw the movie "aNONYmous" this past weekend and now highly recommend that all my friends see it!
btw2 - You might want to click on the "Dali" link at the "endless enigma" post for a lecture on the problem not only of "modernity", but of human cognition, generally.

But i had a post half-ready on it once ... may be i will be able to finish it now. :)The movie is releasing here in late Nov ... will watch it then. Speaking of which, i am looking forward to this.
Now that is simply uncanny.
Fear of pain can certainly obscure the "desire" (if there is such a thing) for a "WORTHwhile" death. Self-surpassing sacrifice for the big Other.
The previous comment was re Now that is simply uncanny. :)
It's my word for the day... ;)
...and the day is almost over in my part of the world. ;)
I wish I could say the same. It is nearly lunchtime though... ;)Pleasant dreams!
btw, i just saw this at Merriam-Webster, while checking the word...Uncanny is currently in the top 1% of lookups and is the 283rd most popular word on Merriam-Webster.com.A green arrow indicates a fast mover: this word increased significantly in lookups over the past seven days. Guess others share in your interest... :)
pleasant dreams...thanks, FJ. And Bon Appétit. :)
