Mount Helicon, mountain of the Helicon range in Boeotia (Modern Greek: Voiotía), Greece, between Límni (lake) Kopaḯs and the Gulf of Corinth (Korinthiakós). A continuation of the Parnassus (Parnassós) range, which rises to about 8,000 ft (2,400 m), the Helicon range reaches only about 5,000 ft. The mountain was celebrated in classical literature as the favourite haunt of the Muses, and its eastern, or Boeotian, side was particularly sacred. On those fertile eastern slopes stood a sacred temple and grove adorned with numerous statues, eventually taken by Constantine the Great to adorn his new city, Constantinople. Nearby were the fountains Aganippe and Hippocrene, the latter in legend created by the imprint of the hooves of the winged horse Pegasus. The 2nd-century-ce Greek geographer Pausanias described Helicon as the most fertile mountain in Greece. His descriptions made it possible to reconstruct the classical topography and led to the discovery of an ancient theatre at Thespiae (modern Thespiaí).
Claude Lorrain (Claude Gellee), "Apollo and the Muses on Mount Helicon (1680)
Hesiod, "Theogony"
[1] From the Heliconian Muses let us begin to sing, who hold the great and holy mount of Helicon, did dance on soft feet about the deep-blue spring and the altar of the almighty son of Cronos, and, when they have washed their tender bodies in Permessus or in the Horse's Spring or Olmeius, make their fair, lovely dances upon highest Helicon and move with vigorous feet. Thence they arise and go abroad by night, veiled in thick mist, and utter their song with lovely voice, praising Zeus the aegis-holder and queenly Hera of Argos who walks on golden sandals and the daughter of Zeus the aegis-holder bright-eyed Athene, and Phoebus Apollo, and Artemis who delights in arrows, and Poseidon the earth-holder who shakes the earth, and reverend Themis and quick-glancing1 Aphrodite, and Hebe with the crown of gold, and fair Dione, Leto, Iapetus, and Cronos the crafty counsellor, Eos and great Helius and bright Selene, Earth too, and great Oceanus, and dark Night, and the holy race of all the other deathless ones that are for ever. And one day they taught Hesiod glorious song while he was shepherding his lambs under holy Helicon, and this word first the goddesses said to me – the Muses of Olympus, daughters of Zeus who holds the aegis: "Shepherds of the wilderness, wretched things of shame, mere bellies, we know how to speak many false things as though they were true; but we know, when we will, to utter true things.”....[...] THE COSMOGONY[116] Verily at the first Chaos came to be, but next wide-bosomed Earth, the ever-sure foundations of all4 the deathless ones who hold the peaks of snowy Olympus, and dim Tartarus in the depth of the wide-pathed Earth, and Eros (Love), fairest among the deathless gods, who unnerves the limbs and overcomes the mind and wise counsels of all gods and all men within them. From Chaos came forth Erebus and black Night; but of Night were born Aether5 and Day, whom she conceived and bare from union in love with Erebus. And Earth first bare starry Heaven, equal to herself, to cover her on every side, and to be an ever-sure abiding-place for the blessed gods. And she brought forth long Hills, graceful haunts of the goddess-Nymphs who dwell amongst the glens of the hills. She bare also the fruitless deep with his raging swell, Pontus, without sweet union of love.

J.R.R. Tolkien did not leave a singular, definitive critique of Hesiod’s Theogony, but scholars frequently compare them due to their shared interest in cosmogony and mythology. While Tolkien drew inspiration from many ancient traditions, he famously rejected allegory. Key distinctions include:
Cosmogony vs. Allegory: Unlike Hesiod, who depicts the gods emerging from primordial entities like Chaos and Gaia, Tolkien’s creation (the Ainulindalë) is a song orchestrated by a single supreme deity (Eru Ilúvatar).
Tolkien despised allegory and intended his work to be "mythology" or "feigned history" rather than a one-to-one symbolic map.
The Nature of Ages: While Hesiod’s "Ages of Man" in Works and Days involve the literal replacement of one race of humans by another, Tolkien’s Ages (First, Second, Third) represent historical epochs where the fundamental nature of humanity remains constant, though often in decline.
Divine Structure: Scholars have noted similarities between the Valar and the Olympian gods, yet Tolkien’s Valar act as stewards or agents of a higher power rather than the autonomous, often capricious deities found in Hesiod’s succession myths.
In essence, Tolkien admired the form of ancient myth but constructed his own world on a theological foundation that favored a unified, music-based creation over the generative, chaotic evolution of the Greek pantheon.
I thought you liked "evolutionary" approaches to cosmology? ;)
ps - The Big Bang Theory is only one potential cataphatic cosmogony.
Tolkien's is more in the style of, "In the beginning was the Word..." from Genesis
Unlike Lem, Tolkien assumes one communicates intelligence with Aliens telepathically or verbally in language... and not by some other "process" (like posting some information and trapping it on a black hole's event horizon)

That's why AIs (modern ones) will not rule over us -- they, unable to find own clues... yawn.

Yeah.
Not like Melkor
Or Tulkas ;-p

You wanna reassure me that you dunno difference of subjective and objective?
Yawn
NB
Evolution -- it's a fact -- independent frim anyones like or dislike.
Very basic fact, to boot.
I'm a Deist. My G_d drew his design in Plato's realm of "forms" for His Creation to use if they ever got into an evolutionary jam. ;p
Really? I heard they have their own Reddit forums now. ;)
:P
Whatever.
You do not get it -- that your words cimpatible with what I wrote?
Are you familiar with the theory of the Bicameral mind? The Greek gods lived in the Upper Reaches of columns in the Parthenon (model of the Greek mind). Nike flew between levels and brought down their messages. That "voice in your head" we now call "consciousness". Our perception of it has since "evolved" into that linguistic voice track we all hear in our modern heads.
I'm saying it's not "objective" or "subjective". I'm saying its' BOTH... that "evolution" is an "assembly theory" process. The Left brain talking to the Right brain hemisphere.... before combining the two "intelligence systems" into one (ala integrated information theory... putting "vocal" dominance in one hemisphere, and "visual" dominance in other... but the "broken" "scent" dominant side (directionality of smell) led to an Ego formation (dominance) opposed to a SuperEgo/ gods side and subsequent separation of the 2. Too confusing, I know. But it's "evolution".
Are sense of self is evolving to this very day... sometimes drastically like the bicameral mind/ Pauling Intervention, or less dramatically in our internet driven sense of 2nd order observation.
Ooops - wrong link above for Pauline intervention.
\\I'm saying it's not "objective" or "subjective". I'm saying its' BOTH...
And I have called it -- meta-thinking. Yawn.
\\Languages have the effect of binding a group together.
Thar's... because, you are from mono-lingual, mono-ethnical socium.
Yawn.
