The Left's Plan to Save Europe...

On DiEM25 and the Left's plan to save Europe from the brain-dead liberal "no-borders" Social Democrats AND the fascist Nationalist immigrant bashing Right.

CANDIDE

You've been a fool
And so have I,
But come and be my wife.
And let us try,
Before we die,
To make some sense of life.
We're neither pure, nor wise, nor good
We'll do the best we know.
We'll build our house and chop our wood
And make our garden grow...
And make our garden grow.

CUNEGONDE

I thought the world
Was sugar cake
For so our master said.
But, now I'll teach
My hands to bake
Our loaf of daily bread.

CANDIDE AND CUNEGONDE

We're neither pure, nor wise, nor good
We'll do the best we know.
We'll build our house and chop our wood
And make our garden grow...
And make our garden grow.

(ensemble enters in gardening gear and a cow walks on)

CANDIDE, CUNEGONDE, MAXIMILLIAN, PAQUETTE, OLD LADY, DR. PANGLOSS

Let dreamers dream
What worlds they please
Those Edens can't be found.
The sweetest flowers,
The fairest trees
Are grown in solid ground.

ENSEMBLE (a cappella)

We're neither pure, nor wise, nor good
We'll do the best we know.
We'll build our house and chop our wood
And make our garden grow.
And make our garden grow!

Ok, new to me and much to catch up, on DiEM25. Varoufakis certainly articulates stuff that many like myself (a generally staunch supporter of the European project) have felt for years now.

I can only hope the movement finds fertile ground before the anti-immigrant Far Right wrecks the EU on the back of Syrian misery.

THE LEFT'S PLAN to DESTROY the UNITED STATES of AMERICA

The political scene gets wilder and weirder when you listen to Democrats vigorously defending H. Rodham Clinton. Many of them seem really to believe that Hillary is the smartest, best informed, most qualified, most trustworthy person we could ever hope to find to rule over us.

The Democratic Opposition truly believes –– or certainly WANTS to believe –– that all the charges and accusations against Her Heinous are nothing more than a long series of vicious fabrications conjured up out of whole cloth by "The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" whose sole purpose has been to destroy her and her husband out of sheer spite and no other reason.

Hillawhore routinely portrays herself as a VICTIM, believe it or not –– she who has taken in as much as SIX-HUNDERED-FIFTY-THOUSAND DOLLARS for a SINGLE SPEECH pandering to Wall Street Financiers who have made her strident, fumbling, desperately unattractive campaign possible.

And she claims with her inimitable version of a straight face –– in reality a basilisk stare –– that she has NEVER allowed a SINGLE PENNY of all the millions of dollars she and her constantly copulating Consort in Corruption have collected from Wall Street Cronies and Foreign Interests, many of them hostile to the United States, to influence a SINGLE decision she has made while in power.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, and I guarantee you'll develop a raging fever, a blinding migraine headache, uncontrollable nausea followed by projectile vomiting, and explosive bloody diarrhea that won't subside for several weeks –– if ever.

To know her is to loath her, unless you're a LEFTIST.

I suspect that many far-Left/ Radical Left people despise her as much as we do, FT. The 'radical' Left is FOR Bernie. They think that Big Labour + Big Government is the solution to Too-Big-to-Fail Corporatism. I disagree. The solution to Too-B-g-to-Fail Corporatism is to smother mega-corporatism in its' crib.

They don't like her, FJ, but twey WILL vote for her if she's the nominee, which looks alarmingly like an inevitability, unless by some miracle James Comey girds up his loins, does his duty and demands that she be indicted.

Frankly, I hope both the Clintons and the Obamas will eventually experience a Ceaucescu Moment. 'Twould be a fitting end to their miserable lives.

Of course they are only figureheads in the Catacombs of Corruption that hollow out and weaken the foundation of good government. The true villains are The Oligarchs, now known popularly as The Donor Class.

It might be worth sacrificing one's life in an all out battle to unseat The Oligarchs and plow them under.

Add to that many centre-left and many floaters.

What if she wins the nomination AND the election, FT, what would that say about R/Con candidates?

FreeThinke said...

What her victory would amount to, Mr. Gert, is positive proof that the electorate in my country consists mainly of selfish, stupid, short-sighted, ill-informed, possibly ill-intentioned ignoramuses.

I would not impugn their motives, FT.

Red Herring said...

I would rather impugn them for hating the Athenian gods...

Then every Athenian improves and elevates them; all with the exception of myself; and I alone am their corrupter? Is that what you affirm?

That is what I stoutly affirm.

I am very unfortunate if you are right. But suppose I ask you a question: How about horses? Does one man do them harm and all the world good? Is not the exact opposite the truth? One man is able to do them good, or at least not many;—the trainer of horses, that is to say, does them good, and others who have to do with them rather injure them? Is not that true, Meletus, of horses, or of any other animals? Most assuredly it is; whether you and Anytus say yes or no. Happy indeed would be the condition of youth if they had one corrupter only, and all the rest of the world were their improvers. But you, Meletus, have sufficiently shown that you never had a thought about the young: your carelessness is seen in your not caring about the very things which you bring against me.

And now, Meletus, I will ask you another question—by Zeus I will: Which is better, to live among bad citizens, or among good ones? Answer, friend, I say; the question is one which may be easily answered. Do not the good do their neighbours good, and the bad do them evil?

Certainly.

And is there anyone who would rather be injured than benefited by those who live with him? Answer, my good friend, the law requires you to answer—does any one like to be injured?

Certainly not.

And when you accuse me of corrupting and deteriorating the youth, do you allege that I corrupt them intentionally or unintentionally?

Intentionally, I say.

But you have just admitted that the good do their neighbours good, and the evil do them evil. Now, is that a truth which your superior wisdom has recognized thus early in life, and am I, at my age, in such darkness and ignorance as not to know that if a man with whom I have to live is corrupted by me, I am very likely to be harmed by him; and yet I corrupt him, and intentionally, too—so you say, although neither I nor any other human being is ever likely to be convinced by you. But either I do not corrupt them, or I corrupt them unintentionally; and on either view of the case you lie. If my offence is unintentional, the law has no cognizance of unintentional offences: you ought to have taken me privately, and warned and admonished me; for if I had been better advised, I should have left off doing what I only did unintentionally—no doubt I should; but you would have nothing to say to me and refused to teach me. And now you bring me up in this court, which is a place not of instruction, but of punishment.

It will be very clear to you, Athenians, as I was saying, that Meletus has no care at all, great or small, about the matter. But still I should like to know, Meletus, in what I am affirmed to corrupt the young. I suppose you mean, as I infer from your indictment, that I teach them not to acknowledge the gods which the state acknowledges, but some other new divinities or spiritual agencies in their stead. These are the lessons by which I corrupt the youth, as you say.

Yes, that I say emphatically.

Then, by the gods, Meletus, of whom we are speaking, tell me and the court, in somewhat plainer terms, what you mean! for I do not as yet understand whether you affirm that I teach other men to acknowledge some gods, and therefore that I do believe in gods, and am not an entire atheist—this you do not lay to my charge,—but only you say that they are not the same gods which the city recognizes—the charge is that they are different gods. Or, do you mean that I am an atheist simply, and a teacher of atheism?

I mean the latter—that you are a complete atheist.

Which is largely what the other side says about your side.

American public political discourse as an endless, palindromic mud slinging match.
