“They saw their injured country's woe;
The flaming town, the wasted field;
Then rushed to meet the insulting foe;
They took the spear, - but left the shield.”
―Philip Freneau

And by a prudent flight and cunning save A life which valour could not, from the grave. A better buckler I can soon regain, But who can get another life again?
Archilochus
I am a guest-stranger. Keeping away dark blame [ psogós ]
and bringing genuine kléos , like streams of water, to a man who is phílos,
I will praise [verb ainéō ] him.
-Pindar, "Nemean (7.61–63)"
in Sparta, the law was based on two fundamental principles, namely épainos 'praise' and psógos 'blame'. The social function of this antithesis can be seen from the objects of praise and blame respectively: kalôn épainos 'praise of the noble' compared to aiskhrôn psógos 'blame of the base' (Plutarch Lycurgus 8.2, 21.1, 25.2; also 14.3, 26.3). Furthermore, the prime medium of praise and blame was poetry.
- Plutarch, "Lycurgus"
“In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it’s the exact opposite.”
I have learned that the power of SINCERITY is infectious, and sometimes it's even possible for it to overcome the instinctive revulsion we sensitive, cultivated, well-informed souls normally feel in response to egregious examples of BAD TASTE –– but not for long.

I imagine Hezekiah Walker would do a REALLY Bang Up Job with YMCA –– a musical genre of which the featured Song of Praise is a prime example.
Great for the GYM no doubt, but not so great for WORSHIP, I'm afraid.
Bump and Grind with Jesus is as anomalous to prayerful inner-connectedness with the Holy Ghost as Hootnannies for Him and Cocktails with Christ.
Ululation will never make a proper replacement Extreme Unction, I fear.
Don't like Gospel?
The lyrics were inspirational..
