“They saw their injured country's woe;
The flaming town, the wasted field;
Then rushed to meet the insulting foe;
They took the spear, - but left the shield.”

And by a prudent flight and cunning save A life which valour could not, from the grave. A better buckler I can soon regain, But who can get another life again?

...but I don't Feel any Taller!?
"Maturity is a bitter disappointment for which no remedy exists, unless laughter could be said to remedy anything."
"Maturity is a bitter disappointment for which no remedy exists, unless laughter could be said to remedy anything."
Laughter remedies nothing. Eventually even as a 'coping mechanism' it fails. Thankfully life is not eternal. I'm getting into my pajamas, in case the Grim Reaper knocks early!
"Laughter remedies nothing. Eventually, even as a 'coping mechanism,' it fails ..."
If that's true for you, you have my deepest sympathy, for only a confirmed cynic, a determined sourpuss, and a bitter misanthrope could possibly entertain such a doleful attitude. I can only hope fr your sake that you meant to be funny, and that I misunderstood you.
However, in deference to the Spirit of the Season I wish you a HAPPY CHRISTMAS and a Greatly Improved, more Sanguine, more Hopeful, more Cheerful, and a much more OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK in what appears-to-be-shaping-up as a GLAD NeW YEAR –– for these United States at least, and we hope the entire world in spite of itself! };^)>
This music must have been written for the aesthetically-challenged, emotionally-immature, intellectually-stunted multitudes who've been brainwashed into accepting idiocy as wisdom, ugliness as beauty, and childish peevishness as smart and sophisticated."
Besides that it sounds so ENERVATED as wells as JEJUNE.
I wish someone could explain to me WHAT they find so APPEALING about crap like this?
Sorry, I just don't GET IT, and if my luck continues to hold out, I never shall. ];^}>
Oh well ..
Deck your balls with prickly holly Hang with mistletoe your dick. 'Tis the Season to be jolly, Even if you are a prick!
Neither does a solo recital of classical piano music, a lieder recital or a program of string quartets..
The highest quality entertainment containing the most substantive intellectual, philosophical, ingeniously imaginative, and emotional content uses few props, few expensive clothes, and no elaborate settings. The cost is minimal for concerts of serious music by superbly trained artists. Its ready availability at dirt cheap prices is one of the great ironies in a world besotted by coarse, meretricious, grossly sensationalistic. expensively produced garbage.
YouTube tells the story with chilling accuracy. The finest musical offerings by FAMOUS world-class virtuosi in glamorous settings such as London's Royal Albert Hall might receive ten or twelve thousand "hits," while a tawdry, embarrassingly crass, over-produced display of out-and-out CRAP by "artists" such as Madonna, or the late unlamented Michael Jackson, –– or huge, well-dressed orchestras in enormous, expensively lighted arenas and stadiums grinding out the insipid New Age claptrap composed by Yanni,et al. garner hundreds of thousands –– even MILLIONS of responses.
Another one of endless examples that prove "The Great are Rarely Famous, the Famous Rarely Great."
Oh well, as a dear old Methodist minister who admired my musical abilities once said when I was lamenting the lack of good taste in church music today, "Son," he said, "there have aways been lots more weeds than flowers, but that doesn't mean the roses should stop blooming. Just be glad you are who you are."
I thought that one of the nicest, most reassuring things anyone ever said to me, and so I cherish the moment to this day. Such experiences are all too rare in a world heavily focused on hostility, negativity, and cheap sensationalism. I suspect they always have been. You should hear how badly the powers of his day treated Johann Sebastian Bach, who just happened to be THE very greatest creative genius the world of music has ever known. Fortunately chronic ill treatment, lack of appreciation and being taken for granted didn't stop him from "quietly producing miracles" nearly every waking moment of his 65-year-old life,

One appealing quality is that it doesn't require fifty professional highly paid performers to produce it.... ;)

Merry Christmas, FT. May the lyrical forever outclass the epic. ;)
