____ and says his prayers at night
May became a wolf, when the wolfbane blooms,

How delicously creepy! How magnificently read!

Who wrote it, and who read it? Both author and actor deserve recognition.

NOW, on to Roger Scruton!

So far, Ignateff's INTRODCTION has me chewing nails and wanting to spit bullets. UGH!

A VERY long three-and-a-half minutes so far, and the unctuous bastard hasn'r finished YET.

If I were Scruton, I thnk I would have either torn the mike from Ignatieff's smarmy hand, knocked him to the ground and commenced my talk, - OR - I'd have walked out thumbing my nose.

And YES, advancing age HAS virtually eliminated my once-fairly-generous store of patience. As time grows short, one realizes more and more the intolerable, absolutely unacceptable aspects of BULLSHIT.

A FEW THOUGHTS INSPIRED by SCRUTON'S TALK:

1. In order to enjoy a FREE and OPEN society all must agree that certain RESTRAINTS must be placed on conduct.

2. Dame Rebecca West posed this question in her novel The Fountain Overflows:as central to defining a right and proper means of governance: "How much does the State owe the Individual, and how much does the Indovodual owe the State? No one yet has been able to provide a perfectly satisfactory answer acceptable to all.

3. A trurly "OPEN" society must permit Freedom of Choice. This means that individuals, families, and any and all PRIVATE groups, clubs and busness organizations MUST be permitted to DISCRIMINATE freely as to who may or may not become a member or be hired, and how thoe accepted as members should be expected to conduct themselves –– within the confines of the group.

4. Without Freedom of Choice there is no Freedom at ALL.

5. Paradoxically I do not believe a society can afford to extend liberty to individuals, groups, or organizations who have defined themselves as SWORN ENEMIES of FREEDOM any more than it can afford to give freedom to murderers, rapists, kidnappers, thieves, vandals, or blackmailers.
. That said I believe it essential to maintaining free and open society for there to be a clear cut disrinction made between WORDS and DEEDS. Only DEEDS (actions) should be subject to legal restraint. Needless o say I regard HECKLING, BADGERING and any form of ABUSE towards anyone making a public presentation to be anACTION worthy of discipline –– and in extreme cases PUNISHMENT. Audiences, of course, should hve the right to LEAVE, if they don't appreciate a performance, but they must do so QUIETLY and in an orderly fashion.

FREEDOM without DISCIP:INE is not Freedom at all. It is CHAOS.

Chaos is cinsidered by many to be a synonym for HELL - PERDITION - the .ABYSS

LEST WE OVERLOOK WE OFFER THS IN HONOR of LABOR DAY

______ TO THOSE WHO HELP ______

May God bless the practical women and men,
Who rise from the hay every day, and then
Produce what we need
Without rancor or greed,
Make things run,
Get things done,
Keep things clean,
So they're fit to be seen,
And continuously smooth the way
So that we may live comfortably every day.
