“They saw their injured country's woe;
The flaming town, the wasted field;
Then rushed to meet the insulting foe;
They took the spear, - but left the shield.”

The guitar improvisation is a bit too static for my tastes, but I commend it for having a certain soothing, peaceful quality, and for its absence of blatant, cliché-ridden vulgarity.
And as for the snotty, sarcastic, abysmlly cynical "DEAR LEADER" crack, all I can ask is, "Wouldn't you prefer to have a leader who is on YOUR side leading your country to unparalleled heights of prosperity with minimal unemployment, than a "Charismatic Pied Piper" who seduces you with empty promises of giving you a Heaven on Earth where everything you want, need or dream about getting will be yours for FREE, if only you will SURRENDER your Will and Power to Chart Your Own Course to HIS (or HER §;^} superior wisdom?"

I do, and believe me we were infinitely better off in those exhilarating post-WWII days when we still fervently beieved in ourselves and the greatness –– and the even-greater promise –– of our Founding.

With the Farmer in the Dell? At the bottom of the well? Is it in a ball of yarn, Or the hayloft in the barn? Is it underneath the bed, Or buried with the dead? Is it up your uncle's sleeve, Or the place you go to grieve? Is it buried neath the grass, Or with the town jackass? Was it eaten by the goat, Or is it on a boat? Perhaps it's in the trees Guarded by a swarm of bees? Is it underneath a rock, Or ‘neath a brick, or cement block? I suppose God only knows? It never, ever grows, But ebbs each day away. Where it’s gone no one can say.

No, but I remember saying the pledge of allegiance, followed by duck and cover drills in 3rd grade. I was out of the country from 66-70, so i can't speak much for what they were doing in schools then. I only know that after that, all the kids were interested in one thing only... getting "stoned."
