Distant Drumbeats Growing Louder...

Walt Whitman, "Beat! Beat! Drums!"

Beat! beat! drums!—blow! bugles! blow!
Through the windows—through doors—burst like a ruthless force,
Into the solemn church, and scatter the congregation,
Into the school where the scholar is studying,
Leave not the bridegroom quiet—no happiness must he have now with his bride,
Nor the peaceful farmer any peace, ploughing his field or gathering his grain,
So fierce you whirr and pound you drums—so shrill you bugles blow.

Beat! beat! drums!—blow! bugles! blow!
Over the traffic of cities—over the rumble of wheels in the streets;
Are beds prepared for sleepers at night in the houses? no sleepers must sleep in those beds,
No bargainers’ bargains by day—no brokers or speculators—would they continue?
Would the talkers be talking? would the singer attempt to sing?
Would the lawyer rise in the court to state his case before the judge?
Then rattle quicker, heavier drums—you bugles wilder blow.

Beat! beat! drums!—blow! bugles! blow!
Make no parley—stop for no expostulation,
Mind not the timid—mind not the weeper or prayer,
Mind not the old man beseeching the young man,
Let not the child’s voice be heard, nor the mother’s entreaties,
Make even the trestles to shake the dead where they lie awaiting the hearses,
So strong you thump O terrible drums—so loud you bugles blow.

We have a saying here in America that we hold in common with ancient Spartans, "Molon Labe".

Hamlet, Act IV, sc iv

How all occasions do inform against me,
And spur my dull revenge! What is a man
If his chief good and market of his time
Be but to sleep and feed? A beast, no more.
Sure, he that made us with such large discourse,
Looking before and after, gave us not
That capability and godlike reason
To fust in us unused. Now, whether it be
Bestial oblivion, or some craven scruple
Of thinking too precisely on th event
A thought which, quartered, hath but one part wisdom
And ever three parts coward I do not know
Why yet I live to say This things to do,
Sith I have cause and will and strength and means
To do t. Examples gross as earth exhort me.
Witness this army of such mass and charge
Led by a delicate and tender prince,
Whose spirit with divine ambition puffed
Makes mouths at the invisible event,
Exposing what is mortal and unsure
To all that fortune, death, and danger dare,
Even for an eggshell. Rightly to be great
Is not to stir without great argument,
But greatly to find quarrel in a straw
5When honors at the stake. How stand I then,
That have a father killed, a mother stained,
Excitements of my reason and my blood,
And let all sleepwhile, to my shame, I see
The imminent death of twenty thousand men,
That for a fantasy and trick of fame
Go to their graves like beds, fight for a plot
Whereon the numbers cannot try the cause,
Which is not tomb enough and continent
To hide the slain? Oh, from this time forth,
My thoughts be bloody, or be nothing worth!

Did you played Strategy games?

Or... I know you have had read Clancy.

When wheels of jagernaut of war start moving... there is no simple measures to stop em.

Esecially with shallow phylosophical babbling. Or poetry. :-/

PS Tech could help, though.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Yes, I've played a few.

Zizek thinks that poetry is very important for war (ala Radovan Karadzik)... at least when it comes to 'sustaining' it.

Can tech help in the recruitment of volunteers to fight?

As for me, I prefer military marching chants...

Do you think russian "chmobiks" "volunteered" because of great russian poetry? :-)))

\\Yes, I've played a few.

But not inclined to share your experience.

Well, my experience is mostly around Civilization by Sid Mayer. Mostly.
And deficiencies of it made my think about how to make a better one.

Ehm... what's the topic of this thread, again. :-)

"Empires in Arms" board game version (played in the 1980s).

It's why I studied Chandler.

Wanna make Lindberg's bet? (am I wrong about that pro-fascist activist in pre ww2 times? and his further destiny)

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

...on "air power"? I'd say he won that bet.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

How's Ukraine's "air power" these days?

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Still relying on NATO Wunderwaffen?

\\...on "air power"? I'd say he won that bet.

At an America First meeting in October 1940, Lindbergh declared that “no nation in Asia has developed their aviation sufficiently to be a serious menace to the United States at this time.” A little more than a year later, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor would demonstrate how fatally flawed that conclusion was.

Aha... you now what I don't like the most?
This far into our conversations.
Contre-factual claims.

\\How's Ukraine's "air power" these days?

You already have access to a Most Truthful Russian Propaganda, why you ask me? ;-P

Q said...

On September 11, 1941, at an America First speech in Des Moines, Iowa, Lindbergh identified the “the British, the Jewish, and the Roosevelt administration” as “war agitators” who had used “misinformation” and “propaganda” to mislead and frighten the American public. The response was immediate. Public support for Lindbergh evaporated, and the Des Moines speech was denounced as anti-Semitic and un-American. At a massive America First rally at Madison Square Garden on October 30, 1941, many attendees openly displayed Nazi sympathies. Lindbergh’s next speech was scheduled for December 10, but it was preempted by the Pearl Harbor attack.

Not factual???
Or you have your own, SPECIAL POV on it? ;-)

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Yes, I do. There's a big difference between American's confidence in media sources in the 1940's and today:

The United States ranks last in media trust — at 29% — among 92,000 news consumers surveyed in 46 countries, a report released Wednesday found. That’s worse than Poland, worse than the Philippines, worse than Peru. (Finland leads at 65%.)

Today people think that a fair and balanced (objective) press is a sign of "white supremacy".

ps - by the end of WWII, American had over 100 aircraft carriers in the Pacific. The Japanese, much like the planes, were down to "zero".

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

...each Japanese island became an aircraft carrier, and so MacArthur developed his "island hopping" strategy to overwhelm and roll back the efficacy and reach of Japanese aviation.

pps - Remember the "Flying Tigers"?

The Flying Tigers began to arrive in China in April 1941. The group first saw combat on 20 December 1941, 12 days after Pearl Harbor (local time). It demonstrated innovative tactical victories when the news in the U.S. was filled with little more than stories of defeat at the hands of the Japanese forces, and achieved such notable success during the lowest period of the war for both the U.S. and the Allied Forces as to give hope to America that it might eventually defeat Japan. AVG pilots earned official credit and received combat bonuses for destroying 296 enemy aircraft, while losing only 14 pilots in combat. The combat records of the AVG still exist and researchers have found them credible.[2] On 4 July 1942 the AVG was disbanded and replaced by the 23rd Fighter Group of the United States Army Air Forces, which was later absorbed into the U.S. Fourteenth Air Force with General Chennault as commander. The 23rd FG went on to achieve similar combat success, while retaining the nose art on the left-over P-40s.

ppps: Wanna know where I saw the movie "Midway" for the first time? In a crowded theatre in Yokahama. By the battle of Midway in June of 1942, the Japanese air threat had been neutralized. They were on their heels from that moment on.

That is much the same as Russians war drum beat about "their" Victory in Stalingrad...

But how it relates to ANYTHING we discussing HERE????

Q said...

\\296 enemy aircraft, while losing only 14 pilots in combat.

Well... I'd watch a good documentary bout it.
Especially if in part with chinese POV...

But, notably, that is futile thing to wait for.

NMP.

\\ps - by the end of WWII, American had over 100 aircraft carriers in the Pacific. The Japanese, much like the planes, were down to "zero".

Well... they have had NO resources to have a prolonged war with/against(which is more correct?) you.

And all their bet was on you being cowards with your isolationism mantras.

SAME as RFia and Putin today...

BUT.

Unlike like that time -- there is YET ONE champion (in a Lindy's Effect sense ;-P) WATCHING at your performance.

Sub par. AGAIN.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

No resources? What about the GEACPS?

Naval Powers shouldn't pick fights with BIGGER Naval Powers. They had resources. The just couldn't use them thanks to the American and British navies.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Just like small land powers shouldn't pick fights with larger ones. :P

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

If the Russians establish a corrider in the West between Ukraine and Poland, Ukraine is done for.

Q said...

\\No resources? What about the GEACPS?

What a bullshit???

How many main battleships they built??? How many carriers?

And that was absolute BEST of what they could.

Resources from colonies -- they would need years, if not decades to make proper use off...
and that is while maintaining militarization???

"Bigger Batallions WIN!!!"

And in 21st Century YOU/USA will not have em. Other WILL. Do I need to point with my finger to that elephant in a room???

\\If the Russians establish a corrider in the West between Ukraine and Poland, Ukraine is done for.

Sparta lost to Thebes. Why? They ran out of their population of men.

As for Japan's GEACPS colonies not being able to extract and utilize their resources in time, perhaps Japan should have thought of that BEFORE attacking Peral Harbor.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

ps- The elephant in the room isn't Russia. It's China.
