...and have Scientists become Secular-Morality Stupid in their rejection of Religious Morality?
"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
-Einstein
We hear much talk of "the Wisdom of Crowds", but little of their "Stupidity". So what about them makes them "Wise"... and what, "Stupid"?
Success, of course. Time Proven Success. Repeatable Success. Validation by the Expert named Lindy. The expert on morality born of millenia of practiced religion, thousands of years documented experience in inter-personal and inter-group relations.
And in Christianity, one born of a moral event that even transformed the very use of language in ways to reflect the perspective inherent in that morality, from that of a discourse of a Master to that of the Slave, which necessitated the addition of 2 further discourses (University/ Analyst) to resolve the 'hysterical' Slave's secular post-liberation confusion (starting in the late ~17th century).
"Where is the Life we have lost in living? Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?"- T. S. Eliot
The Deleuzian Ontology behind the Morphic Resonance Theory of Rupert Sheldrake? Or one that might convince him to deny a greater universal consciousness (Big Other) outside his own brain?
At NASA we frequently tested our payloads via Acoustic Chambers or Vibration Table tests so as to ensure its' survivability during launch, where the vibration loads become extreme. That Information (which was recorded with onboard tranbsducers) captures, IMO, Sheldrakes conception of the existence of a "morphic resonance" which might be biologically interpreted by a biological organism in cellular morphospace.

Religion = Dogma and control.
Spirituality = Awakening and enlightenment.
Science = Studying natural phenomena to understand the physical world. And Quantum Mechanics is beginning to recognize the wisdom of many ancient non monotheistic spiritual traditions.
The religious dogma and traditions for most of the world's evil?... Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The world's monotheistic religions. In which blind belief and acceptance/obedience to their dogma is expected.
Spirituality = Mass confusion (usually). As likened to the possession by demons in Dostoevsky.
Religious morality/ ethics can be studied because of its' "repeatability" from documented cases. Spirituality is more individualized and undocumented, so, "not so much". The "emergence" of suicide bombing from Khomeini's "veleyaat al fiqh" fatwas is but one example.
Besides, I'm talking more about theories like those of Sheldrake... yes, I believe his external "big Other" intelligence to be hogwash, but morphic resonance... is a type of information that I can believe is "immanent" to biological cells as a form of "mass" communication.
A "stress" on surrounding cells.
frequencies generated which convey information to surrounding cells that the bodies mind's consciousness may be only vaguely aware of.
...and that information is directly related to the structural geometry of the cellularly "assembled" unit.
In an "analog" (not mind-digitized) format.
Only for those who refuse to think and live with clarity, compassion, empathy, and wisdom.
Try studying Buddhism with its enormous writings and teachings. Or Gnostic scriptures. Or Janism. Or Daoism.
Your statement here is pure BS.
Closed minds are the path to dissatisfaction and suffering. Be attached to, nor adverse to, anything out of hand. Meaning any belief system until experiential knowledge either confirms its truth or lack thereof. And since everything is ultimately impermanent due to its existence being due to Dependent Origination it is best not to become attached to anything.
Yeah, I have a hard time making it past "clarity".
I'll pass. I already have a world-view blend that would likely result in an addition of confusion, not clarity.
Au contraire, there are many types and levels of "closed intelligence" light cones, not all of which devote themselves to the mastery and conquest of all realms of Space-Time dimensions ,as our particular consciousness attempts. These minds, IMO, do not experience dissatisfaction, but work to alleviate an equivalent to suffering in the form of external stressors. The less exposure to external and unrelated stressors, the better they function.
A closed mind can accept that they will experience Black Swan events. It thereby alleviates the need to live in a constant state of anxiety in anticipation of discovering them before they strike in a vain attempt to avoid suffering the inevitable consequences.
In other words, don't extend your intelligence light cone beyond the environments and conditions that you will with a "high probability" face.
Wisdom more readily blooms in silent meditation and contemplation. To know the nature of ones mind is not simple or easy. But it is neccessary for true happiness or bliss to arise and to be maintained.
The what are you and I doing on the internet, Les? You're just as infuriated by it as I am. Are our minds simply not closed enough? Why do we admit all this noise? For the sake of increased "anxiety"?
I have 3 main blogs. This one focuses on the quieter and more stable philosophical and scientific ideas. Tea Leaves is politics. And Thersites is mostly music (quiet non-thought).
Why do we feel compelled to return to Plato's cave after venturing outside? Who are we going to free? Why do we even try?
...because we want to test the strength of our principles, see where they are weak, and where they hold strong? Is it our insecurity?
Must be...
Long before French poet Charles Baudelaire’s flâneur used dandyism and idle promenades to resist the alienating pace of western modernity, Ming literati like Chen Jiru (1558–1639) and Gao Lian (1573–1620) framed idleness as defiance.
Drawing on Daoist wu wei (non-action), Gao praised the “crystal clear retreat” that scrubbed the heart of “worldly grime” and cultivated “a tranquil heart and joyful spirit.” For him, human worth lay not in bureaucratic promotions but in savouring tea, listening to crickets or resting against a well-fluffed pillow.
