Knowledge vs Power vs Leverage

from Google AI:
Yes, knowledge is power, but only when you use it. Knowing facts gives you tools, but taking action makes things happen. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Why Knowledge is Power
  • Clear choices: You make smart choices when you know the facts.
  • Problem solving: You fix hard problems with good data and skills.
  • Protection: You stay safe when you understand risks. [1, 2, 3]
Why Knowledge Needs Action
  • Potential only: Knowing a lot does nothing if you do nothing.
  • Execution wins: Doing the work creates real change.
  • Practical skill: Practice matters more than theory.

Acta non Verba!

from Google AI:
Power and leverage are closely related, but they are not the same thing. Power is the direct capacity, strength, or authority to act and enforce an outcome. Leverage is a strategic multiplier—the advantage or tool used to amplify that power so a small input creates a disproportionately large result. [1, 2, 3]
Core Differences
  • Power is your raw capability or position. It is the muscle, money, or authority you currently possess.
  • Leverage is how you apply a mechanical or strategic advantage to make that power go further. It determines how much influence you actually have in a given moment. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
How They Interact
  • Power without leverage is like having a heavy weight; you can push it directly with brute force, requiring a 1:1 expenditure of energy for every bit of movement. [1, 2, 3]
  • Leverage acts as the fulcrum and long pole. It allows someone with modest power or resources to move a much larger object or compel an opponent in a negotiation. [1, 2, 3]
  • In a negotiation or conflict, leverage is the specific vulnerability or alternative that forces the other party to move, serving as the functional application of your available power. [1]

Multiply your Verba with the Acta's of Others

"What? You seek something? You wish to multiply yourself tenfold, a hundredfold? You seek followers? Seek zeros!" [1]

Picking the right levers takes a long course in trial and error. It takes mistakes to learn their limits

Provided you are like Nassim Taleb and also study "risk taking" rather than soley hedge fund mgr "risk avoidance" strategies...

Crucial Concepts of Taleb’s Philosophy

Risk Management vs. Risk-Taking: Taleb asserts that traditional corporate "risk management" is a bureaucratic illusion that tries to map the unmappable. True risk management is simply the act of removing absorbing barriers (events that cause total ruin or bankruptcy). Once ruin is completely off the table, you are free to become intensely aggressive and take massive bets.

The Ergodicity Problem (Absence of Ruin): In his paper The Logic of Risk Taking, Taleb explains that cost-benefit calculations fail if there is a chance of total destruction. If you play Russian roulette once for $1 million, the math looks good. If you play it six times in a row, you are dead. Therefore, any strategy must prioritize absolute survival first before calculating potential returns.

Skin in the Game: According to Taleb, real life is risk-taking. However, you must never transfer your downside to someone else. True risk-takers accept the consequences of their actions. He despises bureaucrats, academic theorists, and corporate executives who take risks with public money but suffer no personal penalties when things go wrong.

The Risk of Doing Nothing: While avoiding structural ruin is critical, trying to avoid all minor risks leads to stagnation. Taleb emphasizes that societal progress and personal growth rely entirely on decentralized, small-scale tinkering. Experiencing minor volatility is how systems naturally learn, adapt, and build "antifragility.

Summary Checklist for Decision Making

Avoid: Large, complex risks where a worst-case scenario results in permanent ruin or bankruptcy.

Avoid: Taking advice from "experts" who have no personal skin in the game.Embrace: Small, frequent risks with capped, known downsides but wide-open, explosive upsides.

Embrace: Volatility and continuous tinkering, treating mistakes as localized learning opportunities.

But, it looks dangerous. Cause Bay of pigs sore memories.

While Iran... not that hard. After successes with bombing out Iraq. Then Syria.

Using their weaknesses, it's not "using leverage"??? %^O

Leverage, when used solely for the purpose of advancing ones purely selfish self interests (trump and reichwing republicans and capitalists) will always ultimately backfire.

Looking to 2026 and 2028. Big democratic and democractic socialist wins!!

With laying down under China? %^)))

Doubtful. Although over the past 40 years China has become a rising economic superpower. Likely to surpass the USA, and by large amounts.

Perhaps we should close all but 5 of our 750 costly military bases and use the savings to improve the lives of our citizens. China has one off site (China) military base. It's way past time for the USA to stop playing Empire and being the planet's police force.

And yes, both democracts and reichwing republicans have supported the overblown MIC and its hegemonic idiocy.

But with the malignant narcissist and accomplished imbecile in power what further could go wrong? Right?
