“They saw their injured country's woe;
The flaming town, the wasted field;
Then rushed to meet the insulting foe;
They took the spear, - but left the shield.”
―Philip Freneau

And by a prudent flight and cunning save A life which valour could not, from the grave. A better buckler I can soon regain, But who can get another life again?

John Quincy Adams’s words: "Wherever the standard of freedom and independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her [America’s] heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own."
George Washington in his farewell address: “Europe has a set of primary interests, which to us have none or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns.” Furthermore, “Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalship, interest, humor, or caprice? It is our policy to steer clear of permanent alliances, with any portion of the foreign world.”
It had nothing to do with the universalism of hegemonic imperialism that evolved out of it from it's evolved forms of "global capitalism."
Our Constitution was written in a way that specifically provided for a way for the "foreign world" to renounce their inherent barbarism and join the United States. Ukraine should apply for American statehood.
Given the state of American government, can we apply to become a state of Ukraine?
Given the naivete of Zelensky that would probably happen!
I've set Moonshiners aside and watched these three. Sadder and wiser is the result. Beautifully made and very interesting too. Thanks!
Like most people I've been on a journey to find the 'real Real'. At the sad age of sixty I've had to conclude nothing I ever believed in is Real and not somehow 'engineered' or the result of some political Kabuki.
Now stand back from your technology interface unit for a moment, a new message is coming through...
The ZuckerBorg: We are the (Zucker)Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.
Hang up or hang yourself? Don't do the latter, it's what they want.
Resistance may be futile but it's kind of fun too...
As a small business owner I rely quite a bit on FB for communication with my customers. But my feeling is that trying to explain the immense downside of FB to them would prove mortally exhausting and completely ineffective.
People already play violent video games with in-app purchases and micro-transactions. Zuckerberg just needs to let you VR into a 3D chat with someone in a discussion group and go pvp to the death. Sure, some cheaters might use a bot, but that only makes bots better. Pretty soon we can fully automate the internet and demonetize the shit out of all these hard working influencers. Don't know how to respond to a snarky troll? Pay someone else to do it.
I'm still trying to decide if my retirement date will also be the last keystroke I make on a computer....
As my dad got older and especially after he retired he started saying things like "a life sentence in prison isn't much of a deterrent to a guy my age."

Your life's not a heroes journey?? But... but... that undermines a whole set of Meircan foundational myths!!!
;-)
I'll try and watch these things later but I've got a whole season of monshiners to chomp through!
Enjoy the moonshine!
This is what "Maerica" was all about.

Glad you enjoyed them. At 65 I figured its' time I begin building my own "reality". I've been contributing to those of others for far too long.

FB: too big to cancel...
...but not too big to become Meta...
:P

If they build it, we will come graffiti it.

Sounds like your dad and I have the same back-up retirement plan. ;)
Unfortunately his internal organs called it quits a year after my mother died. He couldn't live without her. :(
You'd have liked my Dad. He wasn't an internet gadfly but he could have kept up with all your philosophy book-wormin' :P
You get more philosophical as you get older... :)
