I prefer to listen to NEITHER as I do not let others do my thinking for me. Which is EXACTLY why I left the very disingenuous and confused GOP.

"To have an experience of something means that something befalls us, strikes us, comes over us, overwhelms and transforms us. The negativity of the Other end of transformation is what constitutes experience in an emphatic sense." - Byung-Chul Han

So, beginning with Byung-Chul Han's, "The Terror of the Same". Roughly, if I were to simplify the the central argument of the book, it's about the opposition between two tendencies, or two kinds of logic. One: the logic of the Same, imposition of the Same, the hegemony of the Same. And the other tendency, one that "regards the Other", where the Same, the logic of the Same, is being criticized and where the tendency to assimilate everything into one and the Same world view, one and the Same frame of mind, that excludes what doesn't fit in. It expels what doesn't fit in it.
And one way to exclude, that doesn't look like excluding, is when we misrepresent something that we are apparently including, but we are including a mere image of it, a judgment (caricature/ strawman) of it that is effectively a way of excluding it. Here you might remember there is an old interview with Slavoj Zizek in which Zizek says, "You know, I'm very popular, I'm famous and popular, but I'm popular for being a funny philosopher, funny speaker, and making a lot of dirty jokes, and my image as a clown is a way of repressing me, is a way of dismissing me." So, that's a really good example of how a way of representing someone despite their popularity can be a way of excluding them from serious conversation, from serious engagement.

The above is why DEI doesn't work, it's "inclusivity" is but a caricature of "Otherness".

Well, while we are in agreement on much, I cannot allow myself to ever be influenced by any corporate mentality or reified political beliefs ever again. I listen to my inner wisdom, unsullied by conditioning and proceed from that solid ground of experiential knowledge and clarity.

The GOP is, for me, dead. Their disingenuous BS and outright dishonesty has nailed their coffin shut for me.

No worries. I could tell it was you by the content and style.

I give you credit for thinking for yourself and engaging. It's more than most, do. It's all one can ask of another.

Les Carpenter said...

Yeah, my style has oft gotten me in trouble. Brutal honesty is certain to upset some. But usually it comes from those unable or unwilling to honestly discuss issues in good faith.

If I misread you, and it seems as I may have, please accept my sincere apology.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

No need to apologize, the internet is an un-natural communications arena. There are too many, sometimes overwhelming, opportunities to either sincerely engage, or more temptingly, swipe-right with snark. I usually try to respond tit-4-tat, and so if I sense snark (even if not from a direct respondent) I often return it. And we all catch Boojum for it. Sorry.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Boojum, fictional creature in The Hunting of the Snark (1876), a narrative nonsense poem by Lewis Carroll. In the poem, the elusive Snark turns out to be a mysterious monster called a Boojum.

The Hunting of the Snark, nonsense poem by Lewis Carroll, first published in 1876. The fanciful eight-canto poem describes the sea voyage of a bellman, boots (bootblack), bonnet maker, barrister, broker, billiard marker, banker, beaver, baker, and butcher and their search for the elusive undefined snark. A dedicatory poem that Carroll attached to the work contained an acrostic on the name of his then-favourite child friend, Gertrude Chataway, whose name is also found in the first words of each stanza of the poem: Girt, Rude, Chat, Away. While scholars have attributed to the work hidden meanings from political subversion to existential agony, Carroll maintained that it was intended simply as nonsense.

Les Carpenter said...

Never heard of the poem. I guess there are reasons for nonsensical literary offerings. Especially if they lighten the mood, create laughter and bring about the realization that in reality we all; are of the same essence and nature.

We can all be individual and yet at the same time recognize that we are, essentially one.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Yes, in my Byung-Chul Han posting from the other day...

Okay, jumping to the chapter called "The Language of the Other. How to move to this chapter most directly engages with how to move move against the imposition of the Same. And the answer, one answer, is poetry, literature, literary imagination. So we read:

"Poetic imagining, literary imagination, works the foreign into the Same like a like a good host. Art and philosophy are obliged to reverse the betrayal of the foreign, of that which is different from subjective spirit. This means liberating the Other from the categorical web of subjective Spirit, restoring to it, its' strange, wondrous Other, giving it its' due."

Poetry, according to Salon, shows a strong tendency towards silence. The noise of communication makes it impossible to listen. Poetry shows a strong tendency towards silence the listening silence.

It doesn't always work... but if you can speak and listen in metaphors rather than directly through symbols/ signs.. it probably helps.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

It used to be that most "university educated" people had an education which was well versed in "the Western canon"... which I suppose made it easier to communicate effectively. Today, I believe, its' much more difficult.... which is why I tend to link to YouTubes to emphasize a "mood/ feeling" rather than a specific "point".

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

I'd probably do better if my links were to more "REALTABLE" subject matter... but I'm usually trying to make points that most people can't even begin to relate to. :(

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

erratum - "relatable" for REALTABLE

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

I'm sure that's why "memes" are so effective.

Les Carpenter said...

Silence is golden. Some say, and are probably correct, that one should speak ONLY when what they say is more important than Silence.

Les Carpenter said...

I selective do the same. Lots of good stuff. Also some bogus BS on YouTube.

I particularly like the Asian perspective as I've grown to realize that the USA and the MIC that DDE warned us about is both misdirected and destructive.

I'd rather be a seeker and learn than believe any BS a political party or corporation executive burps out.

Les Carpenter said...

Well, since you mention it, I've tried to listen to your go to guy. And, from what I can tell from what I can make out he has valid observations. But... he talks to damn fast and when he really cranks up emotionally I can't understand him.

Les Carpenter said...

I'm sure there is truth in your "memes" comment.

Americans for the most part possess limited attention spans today. The media, advertisers, almost everyone these days are in love with the 60 second sound bite.

\\I didn't feel yself a strawman, caricature, OR clown.

That's... as planned. From time to time DEMNs need to demonstrate "hospitality"... toward strawman, caricature and clown... yawn.

For the sake of posterity.

Just wait for a little -- for how they'll start talk about you, behind your back.

\\I'd probably do better if my links were to more "REALTABLE" subject matter... but I'm usually trying to make points that most people can't even begin to relate to. :(

And that's... your problem, not theirs -- isn't it?

As that is YOU who want to feed em some healthy porrige... instead of sweet candies. ;-p

Remember our talks about Lem -- he understood it VERY MUCH...

to that extent that after his Summa Technologiae -- made himself a lot of hassle -- to retranslate his that high-brow missive, into easily consumable ones.

And that is how he got me.

\\No need to apologize, the internet is an un-natural communications arena.

And writing letters too? ;-P

Well... question is -- do you tolerate honesty about yourself too?

Otherwise, that is just a way to irritate people... while keeping oneself safe from criticizm. ;-P

\\Silence is golden. Some say, and are probably correct, that one should speak ONLY when what they say is more important than Silence.

Like screaming "Fire!" in a full theatre? ;-P

\\I particularly like the Asian perspective as I've grown to realize that the USA and the MIC that DDE warned us about is both misdirected and destructive.

Yeah???

And Russian and Chinese nukes directed at USA -- not????

Yawn.

\\I'd rather be a seeker and learn than believe any BS a political party or corporation executive burps out.

To be a seeker... one need to step out of his way... like leave his cosy comfy house under the hill. To open that round door and step out... without handkerchief. ;-P

@ Les - Zizek is difficult, all right. And like yourself, I do appreciate an "Eastern" perspective, which is why I like Byung-Chul Han so much. He's steeped in Eastern and Western philosophy, and can translate for me. Him and Hans-Georg Moeller, who teaches philosophy in Macao, China. Both good "Eastern" sources that get run through a "German" filter.

@Q - And yes, the problem of "relatability" is mine. I'm working on it, even if doesn't seem apparent yet....

BS.

That's not Eastern Perspective.

That's... in terms of Western Europe -- Oriental... Perspective.

It's when Western Countries (France and Britain first of all) got to know Arabic East. And became fascinated of it.

But... mostly took rich fabric and carpets. Tobacco. Bare belly dances. ;-P

\\He's steeped in Eastern and Western philosophy, and can translate for me.

Yeah.

He can dance belly dance to you. ;-P

About Cal Lightman, the world's leading deception expert who studies facial expressions and involuntary body language to expose the truth behind the lies.

I'll have to look for it.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Interesting, but I think I found the tv series where the guy analysed the Unibomber from his texts, better. Micro-expressions require more of a face-t-face dialectic.

-FJ the Dangerous and Extreme MAGA Jew said...

Well... you are on a side which produces second-hand... and not ones who gonna consume it...

OK, Google... "africa living on a dump fotos"

Criticize away. I'm used to it. As well as people talking behind my back. Used to that as well.

So what?

Only those who fail to engage in introspection run from criticism.

So, criticize away. If it resonates great, I grow. If it's not, no loss no gain.

Hope you enjoyed your solo recitation above.

What a lame try.

Well, truth is -- you are not worthy of criticizing. Yawn.

You just covered itself in a Burial Shroud of Total Psychological Protection -- to not take anything too close to your heart.

And that way became deaf and blind.

Well... you'll treat it as a way to come under your skin, instead of frankly and openly stated Truth.

But... who cares.

As you said.

There is no loss to you.

And no gain to me.

As you have nothing to teach me, and consequently I have nothing to learn from you.

As you are just one of 90% populace of the Earth. That are bona fide idiots.

Live through their life without even asking "And what it was??? What it all means???"
